  • City of Portage la Prairie Passes Vacant and Derelict Building By-Law to Ensure Safer Communities

    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

    On June 10, 2024, City Council passed the Vacant and Derelict Building By-Law, to address issues related to boarded and derelict properties. These properties often pose social, health, and financial risks to the community, and they can lead to a decrease in the value of other properties in the surrounding neighbourhood. This new by-law empowers the City of Portage la Prairie to enforce and collect fees to ensure the safety and compliance of buildings within the city limits.

  • Canada Day Activities and Fireworks

    This year’s fireworks display will be off the southwest bank of the causeway and will primarily be fired west, with some shells being fired to the east. The causeway will be under normal operation for both vehicle and foot traffic until 10:00 pm on July 1st when it will be closed for the fireworks. Fireworks will begin at dusk (approximately 11:00 pm).

  • City of Portage la Prairie Announces Installation of Two New Community Docks on Crescent Lake

    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

    In alignment with our strategic plan to continue to enhance recreation and greenspaces, and expand our active transportation opportunities across the city, the City of Portage la Prairie, in partnership with Homestead Co-op and Richardson Milling, has purchased two community docks to be installed on Crescent Lake.

  • Special Meeting of Council

    A Special Meeting of Council will be held on Wednesday, June 26th, 2024 at 4:00pm, immediately following the Reconciliation Ceremony at The Arbor in Dakota Plains First Nation.  The purpose of this meeting is to formally acknowledge and apologize for past mistakes of the City in order to rebuild relationships with our Indigenous partners.  The agenda for this meeting can be viewed on our website.

  • City Hall Closes for Renovations Beginning Thursday, June 27, 2024

    City Hall will be temporarily closed for renovations beginning Thursday, June 27th at 12:00 noon, with an anticipated completion date of September 30, 2024. These renovations will enhance accessibility within City Hall, ensuring that all members of our community can access our services comfortably.

  • Water Main Flushing Program 2024

    Water main flushing occurs each year from late June to mid-August to clear mains of iron and calcium scale deposits to maintain high-quality water. This program will run for 8 weeks and will take place between the nighttime hours of 10:00 pm – 6:00 am.

  • Community Safety and Well-Being Plan & Survey

    The City of Portage la Prairie is excited to announce that we are developing a Community Safety and Well-Being (CSWB) Plan.  This project initiative is funded by the Government of Manitoba through the Manitoba Community Safety and Well-being Planning Project.

  • We're Hiring - Facility Maintenance

    The City of Portage la Prairie is accepting resumes for an additional position in Facility Maintenance. Under the general supervision of the Facility Maintenance Supervisor, the incumbent performs maintenance duties related to wastewater treatment, water treatment, pumping facilities and building maintenance for municipal facilities.

  • Sump Pump Drainage

    The rain has stopped but we are still receiving very high flows at the Wastewater Treatment Plant. If you have a sump pump in your house, please remember this can not be pumped into the City’s sewer system. Any hoses leading to a drain in your house should be disconnected immediately.
