City of Portage la Prairie Welcomes Nicole Chychota as New City Manager

The City of Portage la Prairie is pleased to announce the hiring of Nicole Chychota as the new City Manager effective March 31st, 2025. With more than seven years of leadership experience in municipal government, a track record of fiscal responsibility, and a proven ability to foster engagement and drive operational effectiveness, Nicole brings invaluable expertise to her new role.

"We are excited to welcome Nicole to the City of Portage la Prairie and look forward to working together to build a strong and vibrant community," said Mayor Sharilyn Knox. “Her vision and leadership will be invaluable in addressing the needs of our residents and ensuring the city's ongoing progress."

As City Manager, Nicole will report directly to Mayor and Council. She will be responsible for implementing strategic priorities to serve the citizens by identifying, evaluating, and meeting the community needs in accordance with policies and guidelines determined by Council under the provisions of the Municipal Act.

"I am honored to take on this role with the City of Portage la Prairie,” said Chychota. “The city has positioned itself as a place where innovation, collaboration and community spirit come together to create a bright future for all, and I am thrilled to be a part of it. I look forward to working with the Mayor and Council, as well as the staff, and community to drive progress and continued growth.”

Nicole brings a strong dedication to community service, having served on various boards and in volunteer roles throughout her career. She currently serves as President of the Manitoba Municipal Administrators.
