About the Community Safety Officer (CSO) Program

The Community Safety Officer Program was implemented to enhance public safety in the community by being a visible presence, promoting safety and security during regular foot patrols, reducing the impacts of crime in our community, and improving the City’s relationship with our businesses.

Our CSO’s will work cooperatively with the RCMP and other stakeholders utilizing a collaborative enforcement model with a focus on education, prevention, intervention, and enforcement.

The Police Services Act grants Community Safety Officers enhanced powers of arrest and legal authority to: detain individuals posing a safety threat, enforce provincial laws, assist the RCMP, search and seizure, crisis response, road safety and traffic enforcement.
